This project builds upon the metallic sphere exercise, inviting students to apply and extend the concepts and techniques they previously developed. While the foundational methods remain the same, this project is intended for more senior arts students as it introduces new challenges through the exploration of colour blending and image replication. Students are encouraged to transfer their understanding of value, surface, and form while developing greater confidence in observation and colour application. Students are guided to:
Understand Reflective Surface Behaviour
Explain how metallic surfaces reflect light differently than matte surfaces
2. Use Strong Value Contrast in Colour
Apply bright highlights and deep shadows to create a reflective metal effect
3. Identify Reflection Patterns
Observe and draw simplified reflections found on curved metallic surfaces
4. Create Sharp Value Changes
Use crisp transitions between light and dark areas while also creating subtle colour gradients
5. Compare Matte and Metallic Shading Techniques
Demonstrate an understanding of how shading choices change depending on surface texture and reflectivity
